Today’s Style Spotlight focuses on a celebrity stylist, author, style powerhouse and icon in her own right… June Ambrose. June is a 20 year veteran in the celebrity styling field. She has styled such icons as Jay Z, Diddy, Mary J. Blige, Missy Elliot, and the list goes on and on. Many may not know that June’s first career wasn’t in fashion at all, but in investment banking. Once June decided to follow her passion for fashion, she started as a marketing intern at Uptown Records at the time that Diddy was starting his A&R career at the label. While an intern, June was presented with opportunities to style new acts and develop her craft. Through her professionalism and keen eye for style, June made a name for herself as the go to stylist for urban entertainers in the 90s and ’00s.
Her styling roots may have developed in urban fashion, but June is much more than an urban stylist. She can be seen as the head stylist for the mega hit television show The X Factor, as well as her own new reality show Styled by June. Styled by June is not the typical reality show. Each show focuses on a celebrity and a mission. We get a sneak peak into her professional world of styling. To many fashionistas and aspiring stylists this show has been long anticipated. June definitely has a specific aestetic for mixing glamour with street edge, but the great thing about June is that she really takes an interest in the personality of her client. She styles them for the stage that they are currently in in their lives, as well as where they are trying to get to at the same time.
Some have dubbed her the black Rachel Zoe which is totally unfair to the both of them because they are both pioneers in the industry and each have their own individual lane. Although Miss Ambrose has been styling for 20 years, I feel like we are just touching the tip of the iceberg of her Juniverse (June’s universe lol).
