When I put God first, everything else falls into place
I’m a lover, not a fighter!- “Michael Jackson” I’m a lover of creativity and passion. Art consumes my thoughts. I like to see beauty in everything, even in ugliness. I like to travel and see and experience places that I have always imagined. Sometimes I feel like I have the heart of a gypsy because I am easily bored and annoyed with the status quo. FAQs…
Ok ladies, so here is where I will try and answer as many frequently asked questions as I can (that aren’t too personal lol). If you have a question please email me and if I get it often enough, I will post the answer below ![]()
- Who takes your pictures?
My hubby mostly
-Do you dress up all the time?
My style philosophy is to dress up just a little bit more than the occasion calls for. I love classics mixed with over the top elements. I’m a true fan of glamour and femininity.
- You must spend a lot on dry cleaning.
lol…I do. I love embellished garments. A little sparkle always steps up the glam factor.
-What is your style?
I like to think of my style as classic, glam, diva chic lol
-Are you a stylist?
Yes, I actually started with just styling myself and hubby (& also friends for special occasions), but over this past year I have delved into the realm of styling others professionally as well as organizing & fine tuning their wardrobes. I don’t really know if it is something that I want to do forever, but I am currently enjoying it. I have a passion for interpreting fashion into personal style. My style is not for everyone, but I do like sharing basic tips that can translate into any diva’s wardrobe.
-You spend a lot on clothes and shoes, you must be rich.
lol, My hubby and I hope to be extremely wealthy one day, but right now we save for certain things that we want just like everyone else. I believe in investing in classics and spending sparingly on trends. I like to spend on items that I know I can get a lot of use out of regardless of the season. Just like everyone else, I love a good bargain. Sometimes depending on how little I buy an item for can determine how much more I love it.
-Why is your name SongbirdDiva?
Because growing up, I always enjoyed singing and was in a few professional choirs. I also loved the glamorous personas of Divas of the past like Diana Ross, Tina Turner, Cher, Donna Summers, etc.
-Do you do makeup professionally?
Yes, but mostly weddings. I think of myself as more of an enthusiast than an artist
-Did you go to cosmetology school?
No, I’m self taught but I have taken a few classes
-Did you go to college?
Yes, I graduated with a dual bachelor’s degree in Media & Communications Journalism and American Studies with a minor in Political Science. I am also pursuing further education (currently on an hiatus).
-What is your favorite fashion era?
Believe it or not from the little that I remember of it, I really loved 80s fashion. It was in your face, over the top, excess. I’m an 80s baby, so the only thing I remember is watching my mom get dressed up in silk dresses with shoulder pads, a cinched waist, bright pink blush, and a clutch. I remember thinking that my mom was one of the prettiest women in the world (I still do
). Even looking back at old magazines and pictures, I still don’t think that 80s fashion was as bad as some people think.
-What is your least favorite fashion era?
In my personal opinion, it was the 90s. I feel like the 90s was too casual, anything goes, without really going anywhere in fashion. I was not a fan of the over-sized clothing on women at all!! I think it was a rebellion against the glamour of the 80s.
-What do you use to edit your photos?
Photoshop
-What do you use to edit your videos?
Final Cut Pro and iMovie
-You change your hair style a lot, do you spend a fortune at the hairdresser?
No, for the most part, I do my own hair
-What is your favorite clothing item?
Dresses, there’s nothing more feminine
-What is a must have in your closet?
Accessories! Accessories can totally transform the over all look of an outfit. It can easily take it from casual to dressy without too much effort.
-Will you be doing more style and ootd videos?
Yes
-Are you a shoe and bag-nista?
lol, no not really. I actually just made a conscience decision to start to appreciate shoes. I always liked good looking shoes, but quality wasn’t always my top priority, so I made the decision to focus more on quality and less on quantity (not just with shoes, but with items that I purchase from now on). As far as handbags go, I have very few designer handbags, but my vice is definitely a unique looking clutch. I just think that it is so feminine.
-How tall are you?
About 5’8″
-What’s your favorite type of music?
Gospel, R&B, Contemporary, Country, and some Pop. I also like some Hip Hop, but mostly just Jay Z, Kanye, Biggie, & 2Pac.
-Do you only wear MAC makeup?
Absolutely not, I’m more focused on quality regardless of the price point than the brand. I’ve found some really great finds at my local drug store as well as high end department stores.
-What is your nationality?
I’m Nigerian. Both parents are Nigerian (Yoruba)
-What does your name mean?
My full name is Oludolapo, it means God has brought together wealth and prosperity (Amen!!!)
-I saw your hubby in your Valentine’s day video, he looks mixed, what is his ethnicity?
His background is Chinese, Indian (from India), west Indian, and American, but he was born in LA, California, raised in NY.
-Do you go thrifting?
No, the thought of it freaks me out a little because I always start thinking about where the item could have possible come from. I’m going to give it a try this year, but I just don’t know lol…
-Does your hubby think that you are high maintenance?
lol, well he always knew that I wasn’t low maintenance from the time that he met me and he loves it. He loves when I’m all dressed up or dressed down, with weave or no weave, makeup or no makeup. As long as I’m happy, he’s happy (and vice versa)
